Inspiration for the Boujee Fall Candle Hack
Back many years ago when I sold vintage wares in a couple of booths, there were always fellow vendors who sold candles in tea cups and the such. The look is lovely, and I always aspired to create my own candles with vessels which were my style and preference. I picked up these glass containers in my thrifting adventures not too long ago, and I thought they would make perfect candle containers. And here we are.
These containers have all the elegant vintage vibes I love, which I shared in a few projects, you can read more about them here {The Many Benefits of Thrifting} and here {A Summer Foyer styling with Thrifted Finds}. The point being these thrifted vintage glass dishes can be used in many ways. Once I’m done with the candles I can choose to refill them again, or I can make them into decor again.
But I also wanted a candle that looked as fabulous as it smells. Cue in the organics. The fresh elements elevate the candle to another level and add interest and texture to the entire experience. The organic elements are things you probably have in your home or yard already. It’s such an easy detail to add as the wax hardens.
These would also make great presents for the holidays or make for a thoughtful and beautiful hostess gift. Think about that next time you go thrifting. Put pretty containers for candles on your list. Remember always look at the potential of pieces at thrift stores not simply what they are intended for. I already have ideas for Christmas candles.
The Boujee Fall Candle Hack How To
I use wax blocks in my favorite scent Grapefruit Pine. It’s the perfect scent for the holidays without being too holiday-ee. You can select any candle wax with a fall scent you like or you can use unscented wax and add an oil with Fall aromas which speak to you. If you are not familiar with the Grapefuit Pine scent from Himalayan Trading Post, I highly recommend it. It’s super fresh with hints of seasonal festivity,
Supplies
- Pretty thrifted container (s)
- Candle wax in desired scent
- Candle wicks with wick stickers
- Wick holders
- Organics (I used cinnamon, dried citrus, mini pine cones, spent petals, star anise)
Tools
- Pyrex or microwaveable bowl
- Oven mitt
- Scissors
Warning: This tutorial includes the handling of hot wax. Please proceed with caution, be careful, and use all the appropriate protection and equipment.
Instructions
- Read all instructions and assemble all supplies and tools
- Adhere wick stickers in bottom of candle container at desired wick positions
- Attach wicks on top of stickers
- Set wick holder through wicks to hold them in desired position
- Fill pyrex container with unmelted wax
- Microwave pyrex with wax in 1 minute increments until fully melted, resulting in a clear liquid
- Remove pyrex from microwave, using an oven mitt, and allow melted wax to sit until it becomes opaque
- Once liquid wax becomes opaque, pour into candle container slowly and carefully, using an oven mitt
- Let candle container to sit allowing wax to firm up slightly
- As the wax starts to set insert organic elements around the candle
- Allow wax to fully set around all the organic pieces
- Once wax is set and firm, trim wick to about 1/4-inch
- Voila! Enjoy you boujee Fall candle
Tips & Tricks for the Fall Candle Hack
Add all you Fall organics while the wax is settling, but still liquid enough that you don’t disturb the wax formation. I was a little late with the glass compote and the wax isn’t as pretty as it should be. It will still look great once it burns but the presentation isn’t as clean before it’s lit. For the organics I used a cinnamon stick, which I cut using a scissor, plus dried citrus, star anise, mini pine cones and spent petals. You could also use dried leaves, nutmeg, cloves and more.
I used these vintage glass pieces with gold detailing since they compliment my decor and style, but you could use any type of vessel. I would also use silver plate, decorative porcelain pieces or even wood items. Use whatever speaks to you and matches your decor aesthetic. Make it yours.
Like I mentioned above my wax is scented, and it comes in blocks which are microwaveable, making them easy to use and streamlining the entire process. Essential oils with unscented wax is another alternative. Always read all the specific instructions on the package of the particular wax you choose.
Closing Thoughts
These candles not only look good while they are burning, but when they are not lit as well. Between the pretty glass pieces and the fall organic elements, the candles truly become a piece of decor. Plus the candles create fantastic ambiance with all the cozy feels for Fall.
