Why Blue Cheese Crostini?
The traditional crostini recipe consist of thinly sliced baguette slices brushed with olive oil, which are crisped up in the oven. You can sprinkle them with some coarse salt as well if desire. The basic crostini can be paired with a variety of toppings, which makes them a fabulously versatile, basic appetizer.
Here the olive oil is replaced with butter, adding blue cheese as you toast the baguette slices, which streamlines the entire process. Easy, convenient and simple are always good choices when entertaining. Come on in and let me share how easy theses are to make.

Tips & Tricks about the Blue Cheese Crostini
Cooking Techniques
On days I know I will be serving this, I simply take the blue cheese and butter out of the refrigerator in the morning and set them in a bowl on the kitchen counter. This way they are ready to go later in the day when I want to assemble the crostini. If for whatever reason you don’t have the time, you can always warm the butter in the microwave to soften it quickly. Just make sure not to liquify it. The warm butter will soften the blue cheese to blend them together.
I like to line my baking sheets to make clean up easier. I love these silpat baking sheets or parchment paper is your friend as well. Not only is clean up easier, but it also keeps your baking sheets in better shape in the long wrong.
Serving Suggestions
You can add any pairings and garnishments you desire to compliment the blue cheese crostini. A variety of fruits always pair well with cheeses as well as fresh herbs. Here I used fig butter and fresh rosemary. We have rosemary in our garden so that was an easy choice, but I think Italian parsley and tarragon would also be great choices.
Fresh figs add another layer of complexity with the fig butter. Whenever possible I like to show my guests what is on any serving platter. The fresh figs mirror the fig butter, while the fresh rosemary sprigs reinforce the chopped rosemary to sprinkle on the crostini.
Entertaining Pro Tip: Display what is served on a platter by having a whole piece of the garnishes. For example include whole lemons when there’s lemon juice or lemon flavor used in a dish.
Closing Thoughts
Finger foods tend to keep things simple and festive. These crostini are easy to eat and can be adjusted, depending on tastes. The fig butter is a sweet contrast to the bite of the blue cheese. Fresh herbs like the rosemary add a touch of earthy freshness. Beyond that you can include other sweet jams or dried fruit, depending on you preferences.
The upcoming holiday season is always a busy time for mixing and mingling. This is a great appetizer recipe to have at the ready. It’s easy, It’s fast, and It’s yummy. I am looking forward to gathering with friends and family in the upcoming months. If you’re an entertainer, I hope you give this recipe a try.
