I was lucky enough to spend my sunday afternoon in Napa sipping wine and antiquing at a private shopping event with some fine ladies.
I only got a few small items since I’m going to Newport Beach next weekend with some girlfriends and we are planning on shopping & junking to our heart’s content through the central coast and southern California area… but more on that later.
Back to our regularly scheduled program… this past weekend we visited Michelle at Gilbert’s Country Antiques and Madorom vineyards poured us some wine.
It was the perfect girls’ afternoon. This is just a few of us; we were about a dozen total. I’m in the middle.
Michelle, the owner of Gilbert’s Country Antiques, acquires tons of pieces from all over Europe, including France, England, Germany, etc.
They’re all the real deal and you an tell they all have stories to tell, which Michelle can pretty much tell you a story about every piece she carries. It’s fascinating.
She also has some good ‘ole American junky farm pieces that we all love with the rust and chippiness of years of good use.
My favorite piece I picked up is the fresh baguette basket.
I’ve see them before but the old, used liner always kept me at bay because I don’t want to place food items on it but then michelle showed us how she uses it by simply placing a cloth napkin to protect the bread, crackers, etc. from the old liner. genius! We were all sold; I think she might have gone through her entire inventory with this group. lol.
I got a long skinny basket to resemble the shape of a fresh baguette. I also plan to use it for non food items, picturing pine cones & evergreens, easter eggs, sea shells, moss balls, the list goes on & on…
I also got some other smalls. The French, green ironstone platter I actually saw in michelle’s booth at a show back in November & regretted not picking it up so when I saw it the other day, it had to come home with me. The creamer is for family dinners so i don’t have to bring out a pitcher for coffee after our meal.
The little pot with the graphic is from England and I had seen it in Michelle’s shed when we were there last but I resisted the urge. See, I have some self restraint. It was used for meats and she found a whole lot of them. Lucky! It would be cute holding picks at an appetizer table or matchsticks or simply as a little vase. The gray transferware pitcher had me at gray. You do not see gray transferware very often & I loved the profile of the piece.
I love that I acquired these pretties while enjoying a beautiful day with wonderful ladies all the while sipping some wine.
