winter blues

I’m feeling a bit blah lately and it’s really not about the weather.  It’s crazy warm in northern California.  Dare, I say, too warm for this time of year?
Trees
We have 5 pear trees in the backyard and they bloomed unseasonably  early.  now I don’t want to sound like I’m complaining, ‘Cuz I’m not.  I’m SO not.  I feel terrible for all the folks under so much snow.  Growing up back east, I get it.  And I very much appreciate the good weather I enjoy now.
Trees2
These trees are beautiful in bloom but sadly the blooms have come and gone already.
Trees1
I enjoyed them thoroughly but now I feel in limbo.  It’s still too cold overnight to start planting my containers outside although it’s in the 70s during mid day.
Trees3
Aren’t these blooms gorgeous?  I love how delicate they are.  So since I can’t really plant outside I’ve brought some nature inside.
Winter blues4
I added some succulents & lemons on my coffee table in the living room to jump start into spring.
Winter blues1
I got the mini succulents at the home depot and put them in some of my silver plate pieces, lined with spanish moss.
Winter blues3
I used a silver plate gravy boat, a creamer and a small pitcher, using three different individual succulents in each container.  I used three different shaped containers but their profiles all compliment each other.
Winter blues
The fact that they are all succulents, in silver plate containers with Spanish moss accents unifies them although they are all different styles.  It’s the balance I love between contrast and compliment.  I have them on my wooden capitol with some old books to add different heights.  Balanced on the other end with a bowl of lemons.  Another natural element.  I’ve started drinking a cup of hot water with lemon juice & honey every morning so I’m using a lot of lemons.  I’ll share more about this in a later post.
Winter blues5
I added some fresh ivy plants to my a cast iron planter on the mantle as well.
Winter blues6
I love greenery.  I believe it’s one of the best ways to decorate and liven up a space.  My mom always said homes should have books & plants.  And I agree 100%.
Winter blues7
Fresh greenery just makes  me happy.  Nothing livens up a room as quickly & economically.
Winter blues8
This has helped chase my winter blues | blahs away, starting my spring inspiration process.
Winter blues9
I also added some stock to my green bottle collection on my kitchen table.
What do you do to chase away the winter blues | blahs?

  3. I love the succulents! I have been wanting to plant some in an old frying pan. Wondered if Home Depot might have some. I adore the smell of Stock and they are gorgeous in your bottles! I too welcome Spring and chase away winter by bringing Spring indoors as well as planting early bloomers for the porch. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
    hugs,
