A Floral Garden Table Setting
Do enjoy to dine al fresco? Summer time has officially started with Memorial Day firmly behind us, and the official start of the summer season is only a few weeks away. It’s time to use all our outdoor spaces to their ultimate potential. A floral garden table setting in the vegetable garden creates an intimate and nature inspired experience.

Inspiration for the Floral Garden Table Setting
The vegetable garden is one of our big spring projects every year. We planted it late this year, but it’s set and thriving for the season now. If you’re interested in vegetable gardening, you might enjoy this post {How to Prep Your Home Vegetable Garden}.

A bistro table set sits in the corner of the vegetable garden to enjoy all the garden goodness. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning, a cocktail in the late afternoon or a sunset meal. I love eating outside whether it’s at an exotic resort or at a local restaurant or in our own back yard. It always gives the vacay vibes.
Details of a Floral Garden Table Setting
Besides being set amidst the gardening beds, florals spill around the table setting, creating a garden oasis for rest and relaxation. It’s time to slow down and smell the roses as they say.
Plate Stack
The table is set with casual accents, but also special touches to play off the nature inspired atmosphere. My favorite part of the plate stack are the purple transfer-ware plates, which are a great thrift find. The pretty purple hue makes these accent plates super special.

- Willow Plate Charger {Pier 1}
- Mimi Thorisson dinner plate {Anthropologie}
- Flax Linen Napkin {Whim House}
- Royal Staffordshire Purple Transferware Accent Plate {thrifted}
- Yellow Striped Ramekin {inherited}

Place Setting
The place setting continues with thrift finds, which is my favorite way to add to my table top pieces. Thrifts offer unique and affordable pieces, which have become some of my favorites to mix and match in table stylings..

- Assorted Silver Plate Silverware {thrifted}
- Anchor Hocking Glasses {thrifted}
- Etched coupe glasses {thrifted}

Centerpiece
The centerpiece combines rustic and refined touches. The French linen tablecloth and silver candlesticks are off-set by the organic birch vase and rambling florals.

- Garnier Thiebaut Flax Linen Tablecloth {Whim House}
- Birch Vase {Joanne’s}
- Mixed Bouquet {Farmer’s Market}
- Assorted Silver Plate Candlesticks {thrifted}

Space Setting
The vegetable garden creates a rustic setting with the underfoot crunch decomposed granite, surrounding lawn and enclosed livestock fencing. The bucolic scene is balanced with soft touches like the pillows, throws and the charming tabletop setting.

- Throw Pillows {Home Goods}
- Vintage Watering Cans {curated collection}
- Picnic Basket {thrifted}
- Throw Blankets {Whim House}

Tips & Recommendations
Starting a table styling project with an established theme facilitates the table setting design process. The theme helps determine the overall feeling for the setting and guides the tabletop choices and design. A garden setting with flowers spilling is the main event and driving force behind the table styling here.
Flowers and More Flowers
As Monet said “I must have flowers, always and always.” A rambling floral arrangement on the table plus flowers spilling out of watering cans add to the garden atmosphere all around the table setting.

Embrace Simplicity
A table setting doesn’t have to be expensive or complicated to create a nice and enjoyable atmosphere. Let the setting do the talking when enjoying an outdoor table, allowing nature to do its thing. The lemon tree and the Russian sage and the vegetable beds all give the table a big hug and set the mood.

Thrifting for the Win!
Thrift stores are gold for finding unique and affordable pieces for table top design. It goes to show you don’t need to spend a fortune to set a pretty and festive table. You can find economical table top pieces at garage sales, thrifts and flea markets.

Mix & Match
Mixing and matching table top pieces allows freedom to play and removes the pressure to follow any set rules. This allows all the thrifted mismatched pieces to shine and add charm and character to any table styling.

Setting a pretty table is a favorite around here. I find the process therapeutic and enjoy all the steps from theme creation to table top selections to execution. If you would like to follow along feel free to sign up below. We would love to welcome you to the Mater”pieces” community.
