Winter Blues Table Styling

winter blues table styling

We have had cold, rainy days around here lately. Although in my mind I have already gone into all things Spring, the reality is we still have a bit of winter left. Instead of fighting it, I am embracing it full on and setting a table in honor of chasing the winter blues away. I am turning that frown upside down and making the most of it.

As in my last table {a winter forest table scape}, I am stretching those Christmas baubles and having them preform double duty. Our wooden dough bowl is a sea of blues as the focal point for this “winter blues” themed table styling. Come on in and let me share all the details of the fun table design.

I liked the “winter blues” theme for a table design, but at first I struggled with the “blue” aspect. Then I had the light bulb moment when I thought about the blue ornaments I inherited from my parents. My mom had a Christmas silver tinsel tree at one point, which was decorated with these blue baubles. Can you say retro? What I would pay to have that tinsel tree today…but I digress.

The blue glass baubles were the inspiration for this table, and I built around it with what I had. Using seasonal decor for other purposes has been a goal of mine lately and here is another example. The Christmas ornaments used in a different way made me so happy. Also I had bought some of the blue linens for coastal vibes in the summertime, and they worked perfectly here.

I pulled out some of my vintage blue ball jars to use as votives around the table. Plus I created place cards using plain card stock with blue ink, accented with blue twine. Just a few more details to bring the winter blue notes full circle. I love all the different layers of blues and how they all come together for a cohesive look.

The rattan chargers are a favorite of mine. These are from Pier One back in the day when they had brick & mortar stores, which I miss so much. It was a great destination for tabletop and seasonal decor.

Anyway I saw them in the store, but waited until they were heavily discounted. By then thought the inventory was depleted. So I traveled to a couple of stores and was able to find 12 in good shape. I love the color and texture they always bring to a table styling.

I hope you found some inspiration in this winter blues table design. What’s the weather doing around your parts? Like I said, around here it’s been raining a lot. I’m not complaining since we always need rain around here, but it is a lot.

But then we have a few days of sunshine and warmth, which has me ready for spring. I have spring projects lined up, which I can’t wait to share, plus I can’t wait to get to the garden and start using our outdoor spaces again.

Everything is pretty damp when we get outside on sunny days, but I can’t wait for everything to start to come alive again. Actually we have some stuff already starting to bloom and do their thing.

  1. MaryJo,
I love that you are embracing Winter with this tablescape!! I too am not ready to give up on Winter as it is my favorite Season after Fall because I do not do well physically in the heat of the Summer…Plus it is pretty hard to think Spring when we still have about 8 inches of snow outside on the ground…The blue and white is so charming and it appears to be one of the big things for Spring this year….I love the fire place in the background!! So darn charming…We will not see signs of Spring here in NEPA until the end of March even though 50’s are predicted for next week….However, some of our best snow storms have occurred in March!! I hope you are having a great week!!

  2. This is just lovely MaryJo! I’m so impressed with you using your seasonal decor in other ways – what a great idea! Thanks so much for the inspiration my friend – it’s a beautiful way to brighten up the end of winter!

  3. I wish I had that tinsel tree too MaryJo! I have wanted one for years…. I am loving your table setting with the blue baubles too. I always hate letting go of Christmas, and this is the perfect way to keep it alive for a while longer. I miss Pier One too, I always seemed to find those special touches. Hope you are doing well! 🙂
