Miss Masterpiece just had her 12th birthday and we updated her room while she was away at cheer camp.
The big changes {new color theme, new furniture, etc.} had been done last year but we made some rearranging, organizing & tweaking while she was away to surprise her.
Since she arrived back on her actual birthday we added some fun balloons to start the festivities.
And a fun sign on her door to welcome her home and celebrate! { her team colors are turquoise & purple so it tied in nicely}
Originally when we remodeled her room last year we bought the corner desk from PBTeen but after awhile she decided she wanted a smaller straight desk; so instead of buying a new desk, which is what she suggested {ahem; that’s not happening}…
…Mr. Masterpiece took it apart and created a new top and used the two side pieces from the original desk. He did a fabulous job and Miss Masterpiece is over the moon because she’s been wanting this change for a long time. {this way if we decide to use it as a corner desk in the future we just swap it back to the original pieces; win-win}.
The wall color is WAY brighter than I wanted but Mr. Masterpiece had to keep reminding me it’s her bedroom not mine. I hate when he’s right. Pottery Barn calls this color “pool” in their catalog for the bedding, accessories, etc. and with a quick phone call they informed me they work with Sherwin Williams and have a paint color to match.
Voila! Miss Masterpiece loves the color. On the other hand, see the dresser? That’s more my speed. I painted the dresser with chalk paint and added the vintage knobs. I had to add some shabby, grunge, vintage detail to the mix. She wants a new dresser but I keep resisting. It was actually the nursery dresser I used for both Masterpiece kids. It was a baby nursery white along with the armoire, which I sold on craigslist. I’m having a hard time letting go of this one. Time will tell.
Miss M has kept her room immaculate since the change. We moved every single piece of furniture to a new spot using her direction|suggestions and I made some major editing with all the junk stuff she had in her room. I could edit some more but she is 12 and she likes her things so I am willing to compromise as long as she keeps it neat.
We still have some details to finalize. I new chandelier and storage baskets and bins are a couple that come to mind. I will update when we put the finishes touches.
