Inspiration for the Trash to Treasure Oval Picture Frame Easter Egg Decor
I found myself with a couple of oval frames from a thrift store and the Dollar Tree. Both of these are favorite sources for DIY seasonal crafts. With some paint and imagination I wanted to transform these pieces into Easter egg goodness.
Using some mediums which are on repeat around here these charming eggs fit seamlessly into our decor aesthetic. Once again vintage sheet music from the thrift store and faux tin tile from the Dollar tree are the perfect compliment to the frames for this project. Come on in and let’s get crafty.
How To Create Easter Egg Decor from Oval Picture Frames
A wooden thrifted frame is paired with DT faux tin tile, while a plastic ornate Dollar Tree frame is paired with thrifted vintage sheet music. Both egg frames are decorated with accent ribbons, which compliment our decor. BUT… feel free to use items that coordinate with your decor. Make them yours.

Supplies Faux Tin Tile Egg #1
- Oval wood frame (thrift store)
- Faux tin tile (Dollar Tree)
- White paint
- Gold leaf Rub-n-Buf
- Dark wax
- Assorted gold ribbons
- Dried roses
- Scotch Tape
Tools Faux Tin Tile Egg #1
- Scissors
- Sharpie
- Craft Sanding block
- Rag
- Hot glue gun & glue gun glue sticks
- Silicone finger protectors
Instructions Faux Tin Tile Egg #1
- Disassemble frame and put glass aside (you won’t need it for this project)
- Clean frame thoroughly
- Using frame insert, trace oval shape from faux tin tile sheet and cut out
- Apply a coat of white paint to oval tin tile and frame, setting aside to dry
- Once paint is dry, sand frame lightly to distress
- Apply dark wax to frame and wipe, adding another layer of distressing; set aside
- Sand tin tile slightly, dab dark wax and add rub-n-buf to raised details, adding layers of dimension
- Add a slight amount of Rub-n-buf to frame edges
- Cut piece (s) of ribbon to the size across egg and attach in desired position using either tape on the back or hot glue gun
- Using hot glue gun attach dried roses to one side of ribbon
- Attach faux tin tile insert and backing to frame
- Voila! Enjoy your new Easter egg decor treasure
Supplies Vintage Sheet Music Egg #2
- Oval ornate frame (Dollar Tree)
- Vintage sheet music (thrift store)
- White paint
- Dark wax
- Brown ink pad
- Assorted ribbons (I used green and pearl ribbons)
- Scotch Tape
Tools Vintage Sheet Music Egg #2
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Craft Sanding block
- Rag
Instructions Vintage Sheet Music Egg #2
- Apply a coat of white paint to oval frame and set aside to dry
- Using frame insert trace shape on vintage sheet music and cut out
- Ink edges of oval sheet music with brown ink pad to age and add patina
- Once paint is dry sand frame lightly
- Apply dark wax to frame and wipe, adding distressing
- Cut pieces of ribbon to the size across egg and attach in desired position using tape on back side
- Do above step with the number of assorted ribbons as dessired
- Attach sheet music insert to frame and close backing
- Voila! Enjoy your new Easter egg decor treasure
Warning: Please proceed with caution when handling a hot glue gun. Silicone finger protectors are highly recommended. Maintain personal discretion and responsibility at your own risk.

Tips & Tricks for Creating an Easter Egg from an Oval Picture Frame
Oval Frames are Key Here
If you see unique oval frames at thrifts, garage sales, or bargain stores pick them up for projects like this. Oval frames tend to be spendier than mitered square edged frames, so when I can find them on the cheap, I scoop them up. Even without a current project in mind, something will pop up eventually. When I picked up both of these frames, I did not have a project in mind. Now I love how theses unique trash to treasure Easter eggs turned out.
Color Options are Limitless
I used gold and green color palettes for my eggs, since I like to use those colors for Spring decor, which also coordinates with our style and home. Pastels of course are perfect for the Easter and spring season, but bright sunny colors would also look amazing. The key is for the treasure Easter eggs to fit into your home interior design seamlessly. Like I mentioned, personal crafts allow for customization.
Use What You Have
I’m a big proponent of using what you have. All the materials I used were in my craft stash, which did not require any new purchases. Vintage sheet music is on repeat around here and I scooped up a handful of faux tin tiles at the DT since they always add great texture to projects. When I brainstormed these trash to treasure Easter eggs, these trusted mediums immediately came to mind. Use what you own and are comfortable using, which will facilitate any project.
Work Through the Creative Process
When starting projects like this, collect as many supplies as you believe will work with the craft. Then as you create and bring everything together use what works and exclude the misfits. For example, once I completed the golden egg, the roses felt barren and floating. By simply adding Spanish moss, it grounded the roses and changed the whole composition, adding a finishing touch. Let your instincts guide you as you bring a piece to life.
