Sunflowers Perfect for Joyful Celebrations

The vibrant, strong sunflower is recognized worldwide for its beauty. Flower heads from young sunflower plants actually follow the movement of the sun during the day. I’m guessing hence the name “sun”flower.

One of the most widely recognized symbolic meanings of sunflowers is their association with positivity and joy. The bright yellow petals and the sun-like appearance of the flower evoke feelings of happiness and warmth. Sunflowers have the power to uplift our spirits and bring a sense of optimism to any space

Yellow is one of my favorite colors so traditional sunflowers make me super happy. I love how they liven any space immediately with their crooked stems and smiley flowers. The sunflower is native to North America, which is part of the Asteraceae family. This is also part of the Daisy family, which is one of my favorite flowers. 

Details of the Sunflower Inspired Table Styling

Sunflowers are sprinkled throughout the table setting, including fresh flowers, faux flowers and dried flowers. All these sunflower types mirror and. compliment each other, establishing the happy and sunny theme.

Plate Stack

Although I tend to mix and match dishes in most plate stacks, I chose for a very formal and classic look here using our matching wedding china. I am using the bread and butter plate as a canapé dish to enjoy with an aperitif to set the tone for the meal. I still absouletly adore our wedding china almost 30 years later. That’s the staying power of a neutral timeless look.

Place Setting

An Italian cotton tea towel sets a casual tone among all the refinery. I bought these tea towels to use as table top pieces, including as napkins, or table runners or as placemats here. The classic crystal, shiny sterling silver and creamy Lenox china sets a fun juxtaposition against the casual tea towel, rustic centerpiece and homespun napkin rings. Using a tea towel as a placemat like this is also a good tip to protect a delicate tablecloth and/or if you are having a sloppier meal.

Centerpiece

The centerpiece is set with rustic tones. An old French bread board sets the stage for the cheery and slightly wild sunflower bouquet in a bark vase. The flowers are flanked by bucolic lanterns. The dried sunflower heads scattered about also add a slight bit of moodiness.

Closing Thoughts

For the regular readers, you are probably tired of hearing me say, I love to hang out at the corner of rustic and refined. Using table top refinery elevates any meal or celebration, but it’s also nice to keep it relaxed and cozy. Ultimately you want guests to feel comfortable at your table, but at the same time as hosts we want to make our guests feel special.

Using the fancy stuff immediately makes an occasion super special. If you don’t use your fancy stuff or only save it for certain occasions, I am here to tell you to use it! Use it now, and use it often! I use it as often as it’s appropriate, since I’m a vintage soul who enjoys traditions and customs. If it’s not your thing and you don’t use it at all, I would maybe recommend getting rid of it. Sell it or donate it or pass it on to another family member. This way it will declutter your home and hopefully make someone else happy, enjoying your table top wares.

The sunflower theme is reinforced by the fresh flowers and the preserved sunflowers heads sprinkled throughout the centerpiece plus the DIY sunflower napkin rings. I love how the napkin rings look.
