In case you don’t remember or if you are new around here, last year I created a natural shamrock ivy topiary with a Dollar Tree form. It had all the fantastic botanical vibes I love so much. But ivy and plant trellis forms and I can’t seem to make it for the long haul. It was beautiful while it lasted but alas, I had to say good-bye eventually.

So just like I recreated my heart plant trellises for Valentine’s Day, I decided to give this shamrock plant form a glow up as well. I wanted to do something different. I almost used moss again… but then I remembered these green checked ribbons I had in my stash from my childhood. If I remember correctly my mom used these on our Christmas tree. As my wheels were turning, I had that “aha!” moment and decided to use ribbons. And here we are.

Crafting Pro Tip: Read all the instructions through once and then re-read everything again. This way, you are familiar with everything you need and know what to expect.

The shamrock form is from the Dollar Tree. You can see what it looked like when I bought it, and how I disassembled below. You can find all the details here. It’s a great hack to create a unique shamrock decor piece for your home.

Originally I had planned to tie ribbon knots around the entire shamrock, but as I got into the project I did not like the look. Pivot and insert plan B. By wrapping the checked ribbon around the main shamrock form, created a much cleaner and crisper end result. I still liked the idea of the ribbon knots, which dressed up the stem and gave the piece interest and movement.

For the stem ribbon knots, an assortment of colors, textures, widths and designs adds interest and depth. The ribbon designs include the main checks, to stripes and solids. The colors ranged from the bright green in the checks to a deep green and moody green and even a bright chartreuse. The textures included velvet, grosgrain, organza and I want to say the main checked ribbon is polyester. Gotta love the seventies. Covering each shamrock leaf in a different shade of green would be a really fun design option..

The hot glue can be applied using different techniques. The hot glue can be applied to the shamrock form and then lay the ribbon on top. The glue can also be place on the ribbon which can then be attached to the form. I used both methods, depending if it was the beginning or the end of the ribbon. Regardless of which method you use, silicone finger protectors should be used when working with a hot glue gun to prevent injury.

Warning: Please proceed with caution when handling a hot glue gun. Silicone finger protectors are highly recommended. Maintain personal discretion and responsibility at your own risk.

Styling new crafted seasonal decor is always the reward after creating a unique decoration. A quick vignette, includes an old thrifted item and a new thrifted piece. The lion head tole planter is one of my newest finds, and I absolutely love it. It looks high end without a high end price tag. It fits this plant trellis, which compliments the new St. Patrick’s day ribbon shamrock topiary.

I will share more about this piece in the next thrifted goodies installment at the end of the month. If you don’t want to miss any Master”pieces” of my Life new content, sign-up below to receive new posts directly into your in-box.

I hope you enjoyed this charming St. Patrick’s day topiary DIY. If you celebrate, please stay safe and sound. If it’s a day like any other for you, wishing you a fun day. Since the holiday lands on a Monday, I am guessing many folks are celebrating over the weekend. I’m planning on making a corn beef dish and the boys will probably crack open some Guinness. That’s as exciting as it gets around here (wink). Have fun folks and see you next time.
