Easy Festive Bow Throw Pillow Hack

easy festive bow throw pillow hack

The best part? Once the holidays are over simply remove the ribbon and use throw pillow as usual. No storing extra holiday stuff and you can use the ribbon in another project if wanted. It’s a win win all around.

While out and about I spied festive throw pillows with big bows on them, making them look like pretty presents. They are super cute, but the thing is… I don’t want to spend more money on holiday decor, I don’t want to store said holiday decor during the off season and none of the accent pillows were exactly. my style per se. What’s a girl to do? Create an easy, festive bow pillow hack which checks all the boxes. Please join me as we get festive the easy way.

Not only is this a super easy hack but it’s 100% adaptable. Different colors, patterns, textures, etc. can be used on the pillows or ribbons or both. Originally I considered using a velvet ribbon, but then decided I didn’t want to purchase anything new. Our well loved linen pillows are dressed up with a plaid ribbon., which I’ve used again and again.

Crafting Pro Tip: Read all the instructions through once and then re-read everything again. This way, you are familiar with everything you need and know what to expect.

This plaid ribbon was a great after season score a couple of years ago.The ribbon immediately spoke to me although I wasn’t exactly sure how I was going to use it. I love the colors and design with the flax edging. I have used it in a variety of ways and have more ideas to share soon.

A neutral pillow works best for a patterned ribbon. Or you could do it backwards with a patterned pillow and a solid ribbon, but of course it depends on how they both compliment each other. The point is to use an existing throw pillow you might already own. I used linen pillows which have a well worn farmhouse look. I enjoy the cozy feels. Just in case, I have included some options in the shopping section below for your convenience.

I’ll be using my pillows purely as decorative, for show only. They will not be practical for the holiday season to lay on. If you think your pretty bow throw pillows will get some wear and tear, I suggest using safety pins to secure in place. Use a safety pin where the ribbon crosses in the back, attaching bottom ribbon to pillow while top ribbon will cover the mechanics. Also used another safety pin on bottom of bow to keep bow knotted in the front.
