Glass Vases

This is an obvious choice with classic and timeless appeal. Can’t go wrong with this one. Glass vases come in different styles from elegant cut crystal to basic farmhouses profiles. Glass is a versatile choice, simply choose an aesthetic which complements your decor.

Porcelain

Porcelain pieces also lean towards the traditional, but can be mixed and matched in different decor styles, used the right way. Porcelain allows for a classic look which transcends time.

Decorative Urn

Vessels like compotes and urns bring a sense of elegance to floral arrangements. One again ornate urns can be used in more traditional homes while geometric and linear designs compliment a more contemporary style. Either way a decorative urn immediately raises blooms to another level.

Ceramic Container

Ceramic containers come in a variety of styles and there truly is something for everyone. Ceramic vases, jars, jugs, etc. can be used as a unique and sturdy vessel, which can accommodate heavier and larger arrangements.

Vintage Silver

Vintage silver is dear and close to my heart. I have curated a collection of unique pieces through years of thrifting and junking. Look at silver pitchers, creamers, ice buckets, tureens and more with a new perspective for floral displays.

Rattan Vase

Woven pieces add great texture and interest to floral bouquets. Rattan vessels add a casual and relaxed feel to home interiors with is perfect for spring and summer.

Glass Bottle

This is a great choice too, making a big impact a super easy way. Bottles can be found easily, including your recycling bin. Depending on the bottle style you can use it as a simple bud vase or included a few stems if the opening allows. Displaying bottles in mass creates an even bigger impact.

Woven Basket

Baskets are a super charming way to display fresh blooms with a soft and organic aesthetic. Baskets lend a relaxed, pastoral quality that pairs especially well with cottage-style blooms.

Watering Can

A watering can flower arrangement is perfect for spring. Watering cans provide all the charming cottage vibes for a relaxed yet amazing presentation.

Bud Vase

Sometimes less is more and a simple stem tucked in a bud vase is all you need. A collection of bud vases creates a big impact in a simple way as well.

Mason Jar

This is an easy way to elevate an everyday kitchen staple to a trend worthy decor accent. Vintage Mason jars add a layer of depth, but new jars also become charming with pretty stems popping up. Special flower frog lids can be used to support perky stems.

Enamelware

Enamelware has a great finish with its own glossy finish which no other vessel can replicate. Use vintage coffee pots, basins and pitchers in your favorite colors to display spring flowers.

Bucket

Buckets provide a wide opening for a full arrangement or potted blooming plant. Buckets can be wood or metal and provide provincial and casual effects for both indoor and outdoor use.

Advertising Tin

Advertising tins are interesting and unique on their own, but spilling with pretty blooms elevates them to the next level with so much personality and charm. Vintage tins have great patina but newer tins can easily be aged by leaving them outside for a bit of time.

Glass Cloche

Anything under glass adds an immediate air of mystery and interest. Blooms under glass are magnified creating a special impact, which only requires dainty flowers.

Pitcher

A vintage pitcher instantly adds charm and warmth to any spring arrangement. The narrow spout helps naturally support stems, making it a great choice for beginners who want structure without using fancy mechanics. Pitchers can be ceramic, glass, silver and more.

Window Box | Trough

Rectangular planters like troughs and window boxes are perfect for a centerpiece or a statement piece on a long table. Potted flowers can be places inside or cut bloomss can be arranged in a unique and special arrangement.

Regardless of what you choose, keep these principles in mind: always clean your vessel thoroughly before use, as bacteria shortens the life of your flowers. For vessels without built-in structure, use a form of mechanic to hold stems in place like oasis, floral frog or tape. And remember — the water line matters. Keep it fresh and change it every two days to extend the life of your arrangement.a

Maintenance Tips to Keep in Mind

  • Clean Vessel (minimizing bacteria)
  • Use Proper Mechanics (foam, frog, grid, chicken wire)
  • Change Water Every Other Day
  • Keep Stem Cuts Fresh

Additionally, keep in mind to protect the inside of unique vessels. Unusual containers might not necessarily be water tight or water might damage the inside of said container. Some solutions include lining the inside with plastic like baskets or troughs. Also use a smaller plastic or simple glass vase to hold water and stems which can discretely be tucked into a unique piece. I use this trick all the time to protect pieces from damage or prevent any mishaps.

Some of the most memorable floral displays come from thinking outside the traditional vase. A vintage tin can, a teapot, a mason jar, a copper pot, or even a hollowed-out book can all serve as charming, conversation-starting vessels. The key is to match the scale of the container to the blooms — delicate flowers in a dainty teacup, bold stems in a wide-mouthed bucket or crock.

Hope this inspires to display a pretty and unique spring floral arrangement in your home. Thanks for spending time with me today. Looking forward to seeing you next time.

FAQs

1. How do I keep my spring flowers fresh longer in a vase?
Always start with a clean vessel to prevent bacteria buildup. Change the water every two days, trim the stems at an angle each time, and keep your arrangement away from direct sunlight and heat sources to extend the life of your blooms.
2. Can I use any household container as a flower vase?
Absolutely! That’s the idea here. Tin cans, mason jars, teapots, pitchers, and even copper pots all make charming and creative vessels. Just make sure the container is waterproof, clean, and appropriately sized for your blooms.
3. How do I stop stems from drooping in a wide-mouthed vase?
Use a floral frog or a small piece of chicken wire placed inside the vessel to anchor and support your stems. You can also create a grid across the opening using clear floral tape, which is nearly invisible once flowers are in place.
