Are you thinking all things Fall yet? I am. I am planning for fall decor, and crafts and entertaining….. Fall is my favorite season, and I absolutely love all things fall. Here is a cornucopia of inspiration for fall decor ideas (see what I did there?).

I know we are still in the mist of hot summer days. August is a transition time, often calm and quiet with no major holiday, which is the perfect time to start planning and preparing for the upcoming season. Fall is the most complex season in my opinion, taking us from the early fall back to school, tailgate season, through halloween and crowning with the grand Thanksgiving finale.

No other season really takes us through so many important events and holidays in one season. So I always try to have an underlying theme for fall to have a foundation that can adapt and progress with the season. Here are some basic fall decor ideas to inspire.

Small Vignettes
Small decor vignettes are a great way to start styling your home for any particular season or holiday.

You don’t have to deck out the whole house, just simply add touches here and there that evoke the feeling of the season.

Baskets, trays, dough bowls and large platters are great vessels to coral a vignette and make it cohesive.

Last year I actually created a fall vignette in a train case, which had all the vintage vibes and fall feels. So much fun!

Decorative Styling
You can take its a step further and decorate a whole area in your home like the kitchen island, or a sideboard or the mantel.

My favorite spots in our home to decorate seasonally are the front foyer, the dining room sideboard and the living room mantel.

My spots, do not necessarily have to be the same places you decorate. You do what works for you, your family and your home.

You also don’t have to immediately jump into a pumpkin patch. You can tip toe slowly, using fall-ish decor. Pears and feathers is always a subtle way to slide into autumn.

Outdoor Spaces
Don’t forget your outdoor spaces. Having well appointed decor on your front porch and spaces adds to you home’s curb appeal.

Mums are favorites for this time of year. You can find them in many places like grocery stores, garden nurseries, decor retailers and more.

All these details embrace the season. The idea is to bring all the fall feels of crisp and bountiful and cozy into our homes.

crafting for fall decor ideas
Whenever possible, I prefer to make seasonal decor. It tends to be less expensive, plus you can make it exactly how you want it.

By making your own decor you can make it to fit your style exactly, which will suit your home perfectly.

My mother instilled a crafting heart in me at a young age. I love creating something myself, from the conception of the idea, to the execution of the project, to the handmade decor styling.

It’s so gratifying to make something you can use in your home for your family and friends to all enjoy.

There’s so much inspiration around us nowadays to spark ideas and get all the creative juices going.

setting pretty tables for fall
The chalkboard pumpkin above spring boarded this table styling. The chalkboard pumpkin DIY serves as a napkin ring and place card on this table, but can be used in many ways.

As the harvest season, there is so much natural inspiration for tables this time of year.

There are so many natural produce to use on a fall tablescape. I’ve used pears, apples, moody greens and more.

I have some new ideas for this year. I will be sharing over the next few months.

all about fall inspiration
I think Sylvia Plath said it best, referring to August as the odd uneven time, when the days of Summer begin to dwindle, the air changes, but we haven’t quite been graced by the presence of Fall.

Seasonal decorating should be fun and not stressful. DO as much or as little as you want. I hope this post helps and inspires you.

Amazing ideas, MJ!! Fall is my favorite season too. I’m eager to welcome the crisp air and cozy evenings!
Yes! I know it’s still hot hot hot but the crispness of fall is the best! XO- MJ
You have so many wonderful vignettes MaryJo! Fall is my favorite time of year, but I have to admit, I never really decorate much for this time of year. I may try to change that this year, you certainly have provided a lot of inspiration for me. My mom has been the driving force behind many of my decorating too. She always decorated for every season and holiday when we were growing up. She also changed up the small things often, so I guess I get that honest.
I love your ideas MaryJo! I think the suitcase is brilliant! Hugs- Tanya
Thanks Tanya. I’m glad you enjoyed it. XO- MJ
MaryJo I love how you decorate for fall. Your mantel filled with dried hydrangeas and pumpkins is so magical.
Love your white pumpkins and hydrangeas, MaryJo. so pretty!
I never thought about fall being complex, but you are right MaryJo, it is. So much happens during this season, the leaves change colors, then they fall to the ground, the weather becomes cooler, so many wonderful holidays sprinkled throughout. This summer passed me by in the blink of an eye which is strange to me, in years past, I felt it dragged on. Love your fall decor, and those pumpkins are so precious!
I know! right? Maybe complex is the wrong word, rather diverse? Either way, lots goes on. Lol. Summer was way too fast for me too since now both of my kids go back to college. The house will be empty again soon. Thank goodness for the new puppy. XO- MJ
MaryJo, I loved all of the early fall decorating ideas you shared here in your post! I was happy to feature it at this week’s Share Your Style #400 for you. I also would like to share the pumpkins in the rabbit hutch as part of a future post, if that’s okay with you? It’ll be an inspired post from everyone whom I know from the blog. 🙂 I have a small birdcage which would look cute decorated similarly!
Hope you have a lovely weekend! Keep cool,
Barb 🙂
