summer welcoming decor

Hello Summer! Today I want to share how our home welcomes guests from the curb to the front porch and into the foyer during this time of year. A summer welcoming decor sets the tone for the season.

Summer officially arrived last week, although it already feels like it’s been here forever. lol. Nonetheless, during the summer time, I have three main themes that inspire me around our home, which include gardening, patriotic and coastal. These things speak summer to me.

Gardening

I love fresh blooms and plants around our home all year long, but during the summer it’s even easier since we can simply bring the outside in. In these posts I shared some gardening goodness decor with fresh blooms from the front yard and the veggie garden.

The antique secretary desk in the living room is decked out in garden inspired decor, including blooms from the front yard. The mantle styling includes the flowers from the veggie garden with patriotic vibes, which brings me to the next theme.

Patriotic

Once Memorial Day hits I start sprinkling patriotic vibes around the house with the main event on the 4th of July, which is fast approaching. Here are some of the patriotic goodness I shared around here lately.

Growing-up back in New Jersey I always spent the 4th of July holiday down the shore. So I always associate beachy, coastal vibes with this time of year.

Coastal

I just started adding coastal vibes around the house, which I will share today, but you can see some previous inspiration in these posts.

Sea conchs, star fish, sea fans, and more give the beachy, coastal vibes around here, which I love so much and just screams summertime to me.

Curb Appeal

The exterior of your home is the first impression of your place for all who visit. We remodeled the front yard a few years ago and the livestock fence was one of the projects we added. You can read about the front yard remodel here {as 2020 unraveled}, here {the Hogwire fence project}, here {front yard sitting area} and lastly here {front yard remodel updates}.

patriotic curb appeal

Mr. & Master Masterpiece built the fence during shelter in place during Covid-19, which added so much curb appeal to our property. Our home sits at the end of a cul-de-sac, with the house nestled down and back on the property. The fence creates a great presence and footprint for our property.

I love to add bunting to the fence during the summer months, providing festive and seasonal feels. The bunting is canvas with deep colors which gives the vintage vibes I love.

Side note: The top planting area is still a work in progress. I’ve been struggling a bit with this project, but I have some plans, which we hope to finish this year. Stay tuned.

Here’s the front sitting area. Many of the plantings have matured, but I still want to add more around the fountain and the foundation of the house. A sea shell, a large piece of coral, pampas grass and a little burlap American flag give me all the summer time feels.

Front Porch

The front porch is always a great spot to decorate for the seasons and holidays. It’s not only pleasing for all your guests you welcome into your home, but also for all those who simply drive by. You can see how I decorated the front porch for summer last year here {summer front porch blog hop}.

See those petunias I had in pots in the goat cart last year? Well, they self propagated and are growing all around the cart and house this year. I’m just letting them run wild. I love how they look. Nature is amazing this way and it makes me smile.

This year I chose to include white geraniums in the planters in the goat cart. I love how geraniums look and smell plus they are a hardy perennial, which I will be able to get more use out of throughout the year. l’ll probably move them during certain holidays depending on the styling, but that’s the beauty of containers, which can be relocated easily.

The vintage planters flanking the front door {a new front dutch door} mirror the plantings around the front porch. The containers are spilling over with white geraniums, dusty miller and a trailing vine. The mossy trellises I added last year have weathered and I simply look at it as patina. 🤩 Sadly the geraniums were spent when I took these pictures but they’ll bloom again shortly and I’ll share.

The Parkhill lanterns add ambience, which I filled with some sea forms for all the coastal feels along with the candles. Some flags tucked here and there also provide the patriotic vibes. To see more details about our front porch you can read it here {summer front porch}.

Foyer

A foyer or front hall is the first space your guests enter when they come inside your home. I strive for a welcoming and pleasing experience for all who enter. You can read more about foyer design and function here {how to decorate a spring foyer}.

The bombe chest is always the focal point in the foyer, and I have it decorated for summertime feels. This is one of the first spots I decorate seasonally and it might be my favorite too. Shhh, don’t tell the rest of the house.😉

There are flags honoring our upcoming Independence Day. I have fresh blooms left over from this project {a patriotic table scape with pretty, vintage dishes}. Plus a large sea conch for all the beachy, coastal vibes. It screams summertime in a nutshell for me.

summer welcoming decor

I always have candles and lanterns in this spot. I like a scented candle, which greets our guests with a nice aroma when they enter our home. Plus the flicker of the flame and the glow from the lanterns add a layer of magic. This adds a feeling of comfort and serenity.

the lazy days of summer

Summer time has a different meaning for me more than ever. Now that both of my kids attend college the summer months are the only extended period of time when I have all my loves under one roof again. It makes this mama’s heart full.

summer welcome

The family meals and movies and games and puzzles makes me SO happy. And we have to add puppy training in there. We are all smitten by the newest family member. We wanted the puppy during the summertime so the kids could bond with her and here we are.

Summertime has a whole new impression on me now. I am enjoying these lazy days with the Masterpiece family. Let me know in the comments what you’re upto this summer.

Love your front porch little touches …. especially that Dutch door and the seating area. I enjoy front porch sitting. Thanks for the inspiration ❤️ Have a great week and 4th!

      1. Thanks so much! We love our Dutch door. We use it a ton since the climate and lack of bugs in Northern CA allow to have it open often. Thanks for dropping by & happy 4th to you too. XO- MJ

  2. You have SUCH a gorgeous home, MJ!!! Your front fence and yard is just stunning. That goat cart by your door is so SO COOL!! I love how you blend the three themes of Summer together in an effortless way. Happy Summer, friend!

I am in love with your wicker vase, it just adds that extra bit of texture to your decor. Oh my, puppy training, I remember how that is, sleepless nights, accidents, and so much fun! Our kiddo is loving his yard now that the driveway gate has been installed so we are spending more time outside so he can run around and raise a ruckus!

MaryJo – I could not agree with your 3 themes more. Gardening, Patriotic and Coastal all say “summer” to me too. It’s so nice that you get to spend time with your family. Best of luck training the new puppy. Definitely a cutie!

    1. Thanks so much Anna!!! I love the lazy days of summer. XO- MJ
