spring mantle styling with blue ball jars

Spring weather is finally in full stride around here, and it has me bursting with all the spring goodness I can bring inside and outside of my home. Today I am sharing how I brightened up my living room with a fun and easy blue Ball jar mantel styling.

We had a really rainy winter season this year, which I am not complaining about, but it’s nice now to have crisp, clear days to enjoy the sunshine outdoors. But, I also don’t want to neglect the interior of our home. So now that the remnants of Easter decor has been put away, I am focusing on some late spring goodness with some thoughts of summertime in the horizon.

Blue Ball Jars

One of my favorite techniques to style the mantel is to pick one or two accent pieces and use them on repeat across the mantel. Today a collection of blue Ball jars dance across the mantel shelf to create a crisp and fun spring mantel styling.

I combined vintage and new blue Ball jars, and you really cannot tell the difference when the are all mixed together. Unless, of course, you are an antique dealer or have an affinity for Ball jars, but I am not concerned with either when styling my own home.

Fresh Lilac Blooms

I scattered fresh lilac blooms from my girlfriend’s yard in the ball jars, and I love all the different hues and freshness the flowers bring. Plus they smell divine. I love lilacs, and I hope to add some shrubs to our own yard this season. Here’s a vignette I shared when I got a bouquet of lilacs at the farmers market last year. I cannot resist them!

My girlfriend gave me these lilac blooms yesterday because it was my last day at the shoppe, which I have worked at for the past five years. It’s bittersweet to leave since I love the store, Whim House, but I have to focus on my health and family right now so it’s a new chapter in my life. I will be sharing more about this shortly.

the story behind the blue ball jar collection

To be honest, I am not quite sure how I have accumulated this collection of blue Ball jars. Also, not quite sure if this is a good or bad thing. LOL. In any event, a collection exists.

I have curated them through estate sales, thrift stores and there’s also a couple of new ones I have accumulated along the way. I just shared how I use some new ones I stumbled across at a local grocery store here {what is the best hostess gift ideas?}.

You’ll find I love using them around our home in vignettes, table designs, and decor stylings. I share more projects I have used the blue Ball jars at the end of this post if that’s your style and, you would like more inspiration.

don’t forget about the hearth when you style your fireplace mantel

Whenever I style the mantel shelf I like to spread the love onto the hearth as well if possible. I created a bit of a garden terrarium space since it’s too warm to light the fireplace right now, and I’ve been loving on my houseplants.

All the freshness and green is echoing all the life that has come alive outside. The greenery also compliments the lilac blooms as well.

Earlier in the spring season I shared my whimsical mushroom styling. Once again I simply had mushrooms dancing across the mantel shelf with some candles for ambiance and books for texture and interest.

Last spring I used the same concept as today, but used my green bottle collection instead. When creating new stylings or vignettes around your home, you don’t have to recreate the wheel every time. Sometimes you can create a formula, which you just tweak a little bit to get a fresh look, but not with a ton of prep work.

Then later in the spring, after the Easter holiday had passed, I styled the mantel using topiaries. Once again one concept on repeat across the mantel. So easy, and I always find things in mass create a big impact.

Tablescapes

All the blue glass in this tablescape just screams summer to me. The Ball jars were the perfect compliment to the glass orbs and the vintage seltzer bottles.

The pops of blue and yellow in this tablescape just make me so happy. This was a great back to school project.

I don’t believe there’s a more iconic blue than the Tiffany & Co. blue. It’s recognized worldwide, and these Blue Ball jars were the perfect foil for this tablescape.

This transitional tablelscape also plays with the blue & yellow color combination, but in a bit more subtle way.

Vignettes

The blue Ball jars were perfect for a summer time coastal tray vignette. This was a blog hop so if you follow the link to the original post you will get inspiration from many talented bloggers.

Of course the summer always brings along with it all the patriotic vibes with many national holidays. Memorial Day, Flag day and of course Independence Day to name a few.

  1. this is just STUNNING!! I LOVE lilacs….they are my favorite flower to cut when they are in bloom but we aren’t even close to that yet here, sigh. The purple and blue is such a beautiful combination, especially on your mantel. The gold you used is a great contrast as well. So good!!!

Hi MaryJo – I love your collection of blue Ball jars. I also have a collection of antique canning jars. Those with a zinc lid are my favorite. Lilacs are gorgeous!!!
