The pairing of yellow and gray is a bright and sophisticated color combination. Setting a yellow and gray tablescape brings the happiness of yellow together with the moodiness of gray. This color combination creates a complex table.

Yellow is happy and bright, while gray is understated and moody. For whatever reason, I am always attracted to this color combination. Whether in clothes or accessories or home decor, my eye is always drawn to it.

Consequently, this table styling was truly a delight to bring together. Plus, I added individual charcuterie servings in galvanized boat dishes at each place setting. Here are all the details for this fun table setting.

You can see another tablescape I created using the same color palette here {lemon inspired kitchen tablescape}. This is before we refinished the kitchen set, which you can additionally read about here{kitchen table & chairs set refresh}.

I’ve shared here in many table stylings how I like to add an accent, or favor token at each place setting. Today I chose to add an individual charcuterie serving at each place setting. This way, everyone has a place to sit, and a spot to put their glass, while enjoying appetizers.

Many times guests juggle drink glasses and appetizer plates while standing around and mingling, which can prove to be tricky. This is a solution for everyone to free up some hands and enjoy conversations while nibbling before the main meal. I will share more on mini, individual charcuterie boards in a subsequent post.

centerpiece and styling details
The centerpiece is simple and sparse, keeping the table light and airy. This allows the colors to truly shine. The center of the table lights up with a tray clustered with gray candles. The candles are flanked with clear repurposed glass vases spilling with dried billy ball flowers. I dried these billy ball flowers years ago with my favorite method to dry flowers. I will share more on that in a post really soon.

To be honest, the centerpiece is not quite what I had originally envisioned when I planned this table scape, but time was an issue. We were preparing to take Miss M, our baby, to college for the first time (more on that later), and I chose to use what I had around the house to finish the table in time.

Shopping one’s own home is always a great alternative, and I really need to do that more often. Although the eucalyptus and yellow flowers I had envisioned would have also been lovely for this table, it required time and money that clearly was not absolutely necessary. The simplicity of the billy balls balances the chunkiness and heaviness of the pillar candles.

These billy ball flowers and placemats were also part of {a coastal tablescape} I shared earlier in the summer. This is the surprise reason why I had the blue ticking striped placemats for that table styling. The yellow daisy and gray flowers with some hints of blue side is the reason I picked these placemats. The blue ticking stripe reverse side was a bonus, which worked wonderfully for my coastal tablescape. I love when things work out like that.

in other news…
I mentioned earlier that we dropped Miss M at college this past week. She is a freshman this year and attending UC Boulder. I am a bundle of emotion. She is my youngest; she is my baby; she is my best friend. I miss her dearly, but I am SO excited for all the great things that lay ahead for her.

My saving grace at the moment is that Master M is still home. He’s a Junior at UofO, which is on quarter system. He doesn’t return to campus until the end of September. He is my first born and we get to enjoy his company solo for another month. After that we are empty nesters. Not sure what that will look like or how it will feel, but the hands of time marches on.

We work to prepare our young people for this moment, and we are super proud of our kids, BUT at the same time it is so darn hard to let them go…

Interesting table scape
Thanks you so much Victoria. XO- MJ
Such a pretty table setting! I always think of yellow and gray as a spring combo, with rainy days offset by cheerful daffodils. Now I’ll include the combination for late summer tables! I loved the moody photos of the candles, and your intriguing charcuterie boats.
Thanks so much for your visit Sandra. I am so glad you enjoyed the table; it means so much to me. XO- MJ
