a coastal tablescape

Summer is in full swing and summertime reminds me of sandy beaches and crashing waves. It’s the perfect time of year to set a coastal tablescape to enjoy with family and friends, while making some fun memories.

Last month I participated in a blog tour with a coastal tray theme {by the sea on a tray blog tour}, which prompted me to continue decorating with a coastal theme. Setting a pretty table is always one of my favorite projects.

The table sports blue glass jars, bottles and spheres, which echoes the blue ocean, while the sea shells and sand dollars provide all the coastal feels.

I springboarded from the coastal tray I shared earlier {by the sea on tray blog tour}, using the blue Ball jars plus adding some blue seltzer bottles and blue glass spheres.

The glass spheres remind me of sea glass fishing floats, which fits right into the theme.

I sprinkled seas shells in between the sea of blue glass to complete the scene in the middle of the table. I kept the actual place settings pretty muted like a big span of sand dunes.

The Dusty Miller made it over from the {by the sea tray vignette}. You can read more about this bouquet here {front yard remodel updates}. I also added dried billy button ball stems and bleached ambernut branches to additional Ball jars.

All the dried florals remind me of marine flora. Also you will remember I recently picked up these ambernut branches for this project {springing into summer with a frame wreath}.

The sea shells give the centerpiece all the coastal feels to ground the theme.

The blue ticking striped placemat serves as a blue ocean floor and all the other place setting elements are neutral as a sandy beach. Yes, this is how my brain works. These placemats are a recent purchase, which the blue is unusual for me, but there’s a surprise reason why, which I will share really soon.

I love the personal touch place cards brings to a table. I also love to add a token gift or accent to place settings. Using a label maker I added everyone’s name to faux sand dollars and Viola! personalized coastal place cards.

We recently got back from Baja, Mexico, where we celebrated Miss M’s 18th birthday. It was so nice to enjoy the sunshine and the surf. We had a beautiful view and slept with the sound of the ocean in the background. It doesn’t get better than that.

We are back to reality now and so many summer projects waiting for us. I will be sharing here as we get them done.

“At the beach, life is different. Time doesn’t move hour to hour but mood to moment. We live by the currents, plan by the tides, and follow the sun.”

  1. Beautiful coastal tablescape. Love the blue and white ticking placemats! I really noticed the Ball jars in the centerpiece. I went antiquing today in Clarksville, TN, and was looking for blue Ball jars but wasn’t able to find any.
