The ying&yang of sweet and salty gets me every time. Cheeses are often paired with many sweet offerings because the salt & sweet contrast is pleasing to our taste buds. Honey, fig spread, and berries are few examples of sweet parings for cheese spreads that come to mind.

Ingredients:

  • Slices of Cheese
  • Piece of Honeycomb

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees
  • Line baking sheet with parchment paper
  • Arrange cheese slices on parchment paper allowing space for the slices to grow while they melt {about 1/2 inch}
  • Bake for about 10 minutes until fully melted
  • Allow to cool on paper towels to absorb natural oils from cheese
  • When cheesy crackers are crisp and dry, arrange on board or platter with a piece of honeycomb
  • Bon Appetite

That’s it. The cheese selection can be any cheeses you prefer. I buy these pre-sliced and sized cheese variety packs and the assortments usually include Monterrey Jack, Havarti, Colby Jack, Cheddar to name a few. There is no right or wrong, just use cheese varieties you prefer.

Also, as I arrange the cheese slices on the baking sheet, I keep half of the pieces whole as they come and the other half I cut in half. The cheese slices I use are about 3-1/2 inches long and 1-1/2 inches wide. This way you can make a big ooey gooey honey cheesy cracker or a more petite one, depending on your preference.

thoughts on the honeycomb cheesy cracker appetizer

This appetizer is not only super yummy and packs a great presentation punch it also eliminates the carbs from the equation. You don’t need crackers or a baguette to serve this, which is a great alternative for low carb or no carb nutrition. I’ve heard it called a Keto cracker as well.

I have served this as a a stand alone appetizer or as part of a larger charcuterie board selection or I even brought it to a pot luck dinner. The dish and recipe itself are super simple, but you can make it as grand as you wish with fruit or meats, etc.

    1. Hi Pattie! Yes, the pairing of the sweet & savory is wonderful. I buy my honeycomb at a local upscale market but a quick search online showed that World Market & Amazon both have selections. The entire piece of honeycomb is edible. I love the presentation. Bon Appetite! XO- MJ

I’ve not used honeycomb. Where do you find honeycomb? Do you do anything to it ? Just eat it raw.? Are there different kinds ? Cut it and put a piece of it on the crisp cheese ? Is it hard? Chewy ? Lots of questions as I’m not familiar with honeycomb and how to use it

  9. Leslie says:

Should be yin and yang, not ying and yang of sweet and salty….
