5 DIY garland, banners & swag for Fall

How is your fall decorating going? Have you started? Are you done? Lol. I am actually waiting for some real pumpkins to start popping up in my area to really get in the mood since it’s still oppressively hot in northern California. In the meantime I thought I would share some DIY projects to add some great accents and details to your autumnal decor.

I don’t know about you, but I love using garlands, swags & banners in my decor to accent vignettes and drape over the mantel or frame a doorway or sweep across a piece of furniture. Today we are sharing 5 different projects that are super easy and festive to integrate into your decor.

BOOKPRINT LEAF GARLAND

Last year I created this book print leaf garland from pages from a book to honor the on-line schooling experience my kids and many others were going through. All the step-by-step details are on the original post, just follow link {bookprint leaf garland}. The project takes a few hours give&take to assemble but it’s the perfect task to put together while watching a favorite show or listening to a podcast, etc.

CHALKBOARD BANNER

This chalkboard banner is pretty versatile since you can write whatever message you desire. I used it here with “Merry & Bright” for our Christmas porch but we have used it throughout the year for other holidays and birthdays and graduations. This is the reason why I decided to add the chalkboard panels to the burlap pennants. This is a semi-homemade project and you can see all the details on how we made it here {Christmastime outside & DIY banner}.

NEVERMORE BANNER

I made this banner for a specific Halloween vignette. Although I do not post the specific details to create it- it’s pretty simple. I used pages from a book, which I ran through my inkjet printer to print the oversized “NEVERMORE” letters. I folded the top edges over a piece of twine and used a glue stick to adhere them. For the bottoms I simply ripped them to give a jagged and edgy effect to go with the macabre feeling.

GATHER GARLAND

This is another “word” garland, using the same concept as the above “nevermore” banner except this time I printed the message “GATHER” on sheet music and then cut it out using a leaf form. I punched a whole at the tip of the stem on the leaves and then using decorative string attached the leaf letters to a decorative ribbon to string up the garland. There are more details on the original post {woodland autumn mantel} to guide you through the process.

BURLAP SWAG

This burlap swag is also super versatile and can be used from September through the new year as winter decor. All the detailed how to instructions are once again in the original post {garland from fall into winter}.

I hope this inspires you to create a garland, banner or swag of your own to enjoy over the next few months through the busy holiday season. I love, Love, LOVE this time of year!

  1. These are all so adorable! If I absolutely had to pick a favorite I think it would be the “Gather” with the sheet music. But… I love them all! I tried to pin it MaryJo but I couldn’t get the pin it button to work? I’ll try to find it on your pinterest page. Thanks for the inspiration and have a great Sunday!

I love hearing from you!
