Greenery in silver

It’s was over 100o here for days which postponed projects outdoors until cooler weather breezes in.  We also have raging fires throughout California that has made the air quality horrendous.  Staying indoors is the way to go for so many reasons right now.

We actually had a huge lighting and thunder storm the other day which does not happen very often around these parts.  I felt like I was back East.  You would think the rain should have cooled things down but it has stayed pretty steamy outside.

This has shifted my focus to projects outside to inside the house.  I am slowly transitioning from Summer mode to Fall feels around here.  Spy the first pumpkin I have brought out for the season?  I love the rustic driftwood vibe it has and I thought it complimented the chippy shutters well.  It’s the only one I have brought out and it was sitting on top of all the fall bins in the attic so it was easy to grab.  I have not brought down the bins yet.  I am not ready for a full blown Fall explosion…..yet.

It’s no secret that I have a love affair with silver.  And the combination with organic greens is swoon worthy in my book.  You can read about my silverplate collection here {metals I – silverplate} and about my sterling here {metals II – sterling silver}.  I’ve acquired quite a bit of silverplate pieces from my thrifting, junking and estate sale shopping so I like to use them in unique and unconventional ways.

One of my favorite ways to use them is as cache pots for my house plants.  Here I used a champagne bucket, an ice bucket and a chalice to house my plants.  It creates a fresh vignette with a bit of fancy, which I love.

A girlfriend recently gifted me the champagne bucket as she retired her parent’s estate, which prompted the idea to use it as a plant holder.  We already own a traditional silver champagne bucket from our wedding registry which we use frequently in the traditional fashion so I wanted to use this one in a different and unique way.

I think I added the ice bucket to my collection during my vintage consigning days and the chalice was my mom’s {she collected and used many religious artifacts in her decor}.

Silverplate items are always at flea markets, estate sales, thrift stores, etc.  You can find great deals and it’s super fun to find clever ways tp use them around the house.

I am slowly freshening up spots around the house to evoke more of a Fall vibe and moving away from Summer feels.  Here are a couple of sneak peaks.  I will show in more detail real soon.  I promise.

My thoughts and prayers are with all the firefighters helping during these awful fires and for all the families affected by the devastation.
