Happy Independence Day! I know this year it will be a bit different than in years past but it’s still the most important day in our country’s history, which deserves proper attention and honor.
Our town canceled the 4th of July parade which we have been going to for well over a decade, which is very sad but at the same time I understand and appreciate the decision.
I set up a buffet in our kitchen for the celebration although it will be very small and quiet in our house. It’s actually ok by me since this shelter in place, Covid situation and general unrest has me reflective and somewhat enjoying the isolation with my family & select few…..somewhat.
At the same time these uncertain times have me a bit apprehensive about what the future will bring. I miss gathering. I miss mingling. I miss traveling. I miss sharing. I miss my family who usually visit during this time of year. I miss having control of my destiny.
Funny story about these flowers. Well maybe not funny in general but makes me giggle. The blue hydrangeas are from our garden {same ones I used for our Father’s Day tablescape}, the baby’s breathe I picked up at Trader Joe’s and the red berries branches I clipped from the parking lot behind the store where I work. No idea what they are, but they rounded out my red, white & blue bouquet nicely. So fun and unexpected how it all came together.
But as far as the state of affairs, I feel very fortunate that our family and friends are all safe and sound. And for that I am truly grateful.
And despite all the craziness going on in this country right now, there’s nowhere I rather live. I have lived in eight different countries throughout my lifetime and fully appreciate the good old United States of America.
I hope everyone has a wonderful day celebrating our beautiful nation!
“God bless America, land that I love
Stand beside her and guide her
Through the night with the light from above…”
We need guidance from above right now…
