seashell tablescape

In honor of many beaches opening up across the country as SIP guidelines loosen, I am setting a table with seashells and dreaming of the beach. Join me as I set a seashell tablescape.

I love decorating with seashells during the summertime and although I know it’s not “officially” summer yet the weather is telling me otherwise.

The table is set on our back patio using a variety of seashells.  Scallop shells are used as accent plates with some smaller shells and ocean sponges used as little accents.  I inherited the scallop dishes from my mom and I am not sure where she acquired them but I love them. They have patina’d over time and I love the sheen they give off.

Through the years, we have also accumulated quite a few smaller ones from grocery stores where they come stuffed with seafood. Mr. M always wants to toss them when we are done, but I clean them and store them for this exact purpose {wink}. They are great to use as votive holders, salt cellars, place cards…..

I also have a collection of conch shells and other varieties, which I scattered in the center of the table to anchor the ocean feel along with some pillar candles.  These candles are cement on the bottom and candle wax on the top.  They are really cool and I love them!  They remind me of pilings at a dock, which just seem to go together with the seashells.  We carry these candles at my store Whim House, which you can read more about here {working @ Whim House}.

Resisting the temptation to use other ocean items like coral, starfish, sand dollars, etc. was REAL…but I decided to keep the focus narrow and centered only on shells.

This table makes me hungry for a big seafood feast or lobster boil.  Yum.

Of course Northern California always gets cold at night regardless of what time of year it is. I always have blankets at the ready.

A coastal property to decorate year round with sea life and nautical items would be magical.

In the meantime, I will enjoy my seashell tablescape. I hope you have enjoyed it too.

  1. I live in the mountains so seashells are normally part of my decor either. However, I did grow up about an hour from the East Coast so this reminds me of home. Thanks for sharing it. #HomeMattersParty

I love hearing from you!
