st. patrick’s day vignette

It’s that time of year for shamrocks, green beer, leprechauns, St. Patrick’s day parades, cornbeef & cabbage, rainbows and pots of gold.

St. patricks vignette

I’m not quite sure how they all go together, originated or evolved but it tends to be a fun celebration.  I created this little vignette in our home to acknowledge it, because-why not?  Any reason for a little decor project is good enough for me.

Recognize the big urn?  If you don’t, you can read all the details here. I think you’ll be seeing mister urn quite a bit.  Paint is such a powerful way to change something easily and inexpensively; don’t forget that when you are thrifting, junking, garage sale-ing, etc.

I also downloaded a vintage graphic from the graphics fairy to use in the cloche. When I have small cards, photos or graphics like this I love displaying them using vintage floral frogs.  It’s the perfect way to prop them up and it adds interest.

I wanted to inject a bit more green besides the preserved boxwood sphere and flowers so I grabbed a Spode jug with some old, crusty books, which provided color, texture and balance to the vignette.

The Spode jug was a gift from a friend.  Remember my cast iron trio that I just posted about here?  These were the ones I got from my friend’s father’s floral business and later on she asked me to help her liquidate some of her aunt’s belongings. This jug was one of her aunt’s pieces.  She gave it to me as a thank you for helping her out.  Now every time I use it I think of her.  I love when our things have stories.

This little vignette without the good luck shamrock postcard could be an anytime vignette. Stay tuned because I’ll share it when I turn the holiday page and move onto spring.

St. patricks vignette6

I did not spend a single dime on this seasonal vignette, which is how I’m really trying to train myself to decorate this year.  I actually want to get rid of things rather than accumulate more.

St. patricks vignette7

The only “new” thing are the flowers which I borrowed from my stylish St. Patrick’s day tablescape.  These were grocery store blooms, so not hugely expensive, and I have them doing double duty.

St. patricks vignette8

Hope this inspires you a little bit for the holiday, whether you’re Irish or not {which I am not btw}.  Wishing everyone a happy St. Patrick’s day!

Beautiful vignette! I’m also a big fan of large urns like yours – they are just so easy to use in decor in so many different ways! Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
