Book decor

So today is the first day of school.  Yup my kids are back at it & while they hit the books I thought I would share how I love to use books around the house.

Fall decor 25

As I’ve mentioned before, something my mother instilled in me is that all homes should have plants and books.  I have fully embraced both in all the homes I’ve nested.

Fall decor 9-2

Although I have plenty of current books I actually read, when it comes to decorating I pick up vintage books at thrifts stores, flea markets, garage sales, etc.

You can also cover your newer books with fabric, paper, paint, etc. in order to compliment your decor style.

Books are great risers to give your decor different height variations.

I love all the tatters and rips old books have, adding wonderful texture.

  1. I love how you have decorated with books! I have been wanting to add more sheet music crafts to my music room, and I love the idea of making book covers out of old sheet music. Thanks for the inspiration!

  2. My kids started on the 15th so I know how you feel. And the oldest started college yesterday! (Just you wait:)) I, too, love decorating with books. You always have such great ideas for decorating with them, I love to see your vignettes throughout the year. Thanks for sharing at Vintage Charm! xo Kathleen|Our Hopeful Home

  3. Mary Jo, I love using books in my décor as well. I often buy them just for the color. 😉 Best of luck to your kids! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
