I updated a terra cotta urn I’ve had outside forever.
I love the profile it just needed a new party dress.
So when my summer plants|flowers II had planted in it started to fade I decided to refresh it to bring it inside for fall.
After I cleaned it up a bit, I gave it one coat of Annie Sloane old white chalk paint. I also used some dark wax to add some depth and dimension, which gives it an aged look.
Rewind- when I checked in my painting arsenal I found out that not only did I no longer have dark wax, but the little clear wax I had had dried out. yes, I haven’t painted in awhile.
Anyway, so then I started checking all my natural paints to make sure they hadn’t dried out as well. The can I picked up was a sand | tan color and it was somewhat solid like a paste so it gave me the idea to use it with some water and use it as a wash. I was going to get this project done & I didn’t want to run out to the store.
The gray paint was just fine so I also used another coat of gray wash {equalish parts paint & water} after the sand | tan layer had dried. I focused in the crevices and ultimately it worked great!
I like the result it created. I like things to look like they have been “around for 100 years.”
That’s my line; whenever I describe anything I want in my house. It’s hard to do for a house that was built in 1964 but I do the best I can.
It did not go as planed but I’m satisfied with the end result.
I love having plants around the house.
