unique father’s day gift

Father’s day is less than a week away.
Fathers day book0
I thought I’d share a handmade gift i made for my husband years and years ago.
To give you perspective my kids are now a tween & a teen.
Fathers day book1
Yup, a long time ago, but I love to look at creative mementos like this all the time.
My husband use to have this at his office, but since he works from home nowadays we keep it with all the other minibooks.
Fathers day book2
I made this mini book out of brown lunch bags.
Yup, common paper bags which was all the rage in altered art about 10 years ago; or maybe still is, but I don’t know since I have not been active with my scrapbooking | paper crafting hobby in many years.
Fathers day book9
I used 3 paper bags for this project; folded them in half and bound them together with ribbon.
I am sure if you google it there are a million tutorials throughout blogland, youtube and papercrafting websites.
Fathers day book3
I layered the book with photographs, scrapbook paper, embellishments, ribbon, etc.
I also treated the bags with acid free spray before I started the project so it would prevent the pictures from yellowing years from now (all the other materials I used are acid free for memory keeping purposes).
Fathers day book4
I love projects like this because they are fun to create at the time and then fun to look at year after year.
I also believe a handmade project is a very special & thoughtful gift to present to a loved one, which silently says so much.
Fathers day book5
I tried scrapbooking with Miss Masterpiece back then when I was active with the hobby and instructing workshops but she was too young to appreciate it.
This summer we plan to set some time to work on some projects.  I think she’s at a great age and I’ve been wanting to get back to it.
Fathers day book6
I have so many projects {lol~ sounds familiar right? regardless if it’s painting furniture, crafting, sewing, etc.} that I want to tackle.
I just don’t know where to begin since I haven’t touched my supplies, photographs, memorabilia, etc. in such a long time.
Fathers day book13
But when I look at a project like this… it inspires me and motivates me.
I love to look at them and read them; I love to look at my children looking through them; I love to present my husband and father of our children with proof of how fortunate we are.
Fathers day book7
Since it’s a paper back book, some of the “pages” have sleeves on the sides the  bags have their openings.
Since i used 3 paper bags, I had three openings.
Fathers day book8
I made two tags and a mini folder to slide into the 3 openings of the bags.
It’s so fun to have interactive projects like this, tucking away little treasures and messages.
Fathers day book10
So although I didn’t create a handmade gift for Mr. Masterpiece this year I did pick up an inspiring & motivational book for him for father’s day.
I picked this up at target and it’s a perfect gift for Mr. M.
Fathers day book11
He coached Master Masterpiece in baseball for many years and he continues to coach & teach both kids each in every day whether it’s in sports, school or life in general.
I love so many of the quotes I’ve read simply by skimming through the book.
Fathers day book12
Are you ready for father’s day?
I’m almost there, just need to finalize some of the details for the day.
Happy father’s day preparations!
