I finally changed out the curtains in the living room after what seems like forever.
We’ve had the same window coverings in the living room since we moved into this house eight years ago.
Before that we had them for seven years at our previous house.
That’s 15 years total.
That’s a pretty good run wouldn’t you say?
There’s nothing wrong with them.
I actually still like them.
They’re from Ballard Designs so they’re great quality.
I just needed a change.
I’ve been looking at flax linen and/or burlap curtains @ Pottery Barn, Ballard Designs, Costplus World Market, etc. but nothing was exactly what I wanted or was willing to spend…
…and then one day at Hobby Lobby I spied these Laura Ashley panels.
I loved the ties at the top but I walked away.
And…I kept thinking about them…and thinking about them.
Then one day I’m back at Hobby Lobby & they are 40% off plus I found these tie backs also 40% off.
So in my cart they went.
Then they sat in the living room for a week or two ‘cuz I wasn’t totally sure.
Finally for what I paid (almost nothing really when you think about it) I decided to rip the packaging, but of course I still have the receipt at the ready ‘cuz you never know.
Anyway, at first I wasn’t sure because of the sheerness of the panels.
Going from heavy velvet it was a big change.
I’m loving the airiness of them.
I love the nubby fabric.
I’ll love how they’ll coordinate with the other changes I want to make in this room.
I’m debating whether I should get another panel to hang behind as a liner of sorts but right now I’m ok with this look.
I know traditionally this time of year we should be going darker not lighter but rules were made to be broken right?
Besides it’s hard for this East coast girl to follow these rules in California where the weather is still 80+ degrees.
Happy Decorating!

These are very pretty curtains, and make for a much lighter mood in the room. I think you made a great choice.
I think they look great! They will go with any decorating colors you come up with!

Wow, I love them Mary Jo! Really gives the room a different look. Like you said, the velvet was beautiful, but I like the fresh look. But then, I have smocked burlap curtains in my family room. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
hugs,
