cutting garden inspiration

I love the notion of cutting gardens.
They’re beautiful planted outside & then beautiful as cut blooms inside.
I don’t have a formal cutting garden per se but I bring as much of the outside in as I can during this time of year.
Cutting garden 1
I shared here how I used my hydrangeas in my kitchen.
Well, they are in such abundance, I added them to my dining room as well.
Cutting garden 3
I hate to see these bushes all weighed down with the gorgeous blooms on the ground.
So I cut a whole bunch for the dining room.
Fresh cut flowers from your garden are a wonderful hostess gift to bring to someone else’s home as well.
Cutting garden 2
I absolutely love the colors!  Swoon.
Although I’m a bit sad my blue ones aren’t doing very well this year {not sure why?}.
Cutting garden 4
I added things I usually use when guests come over {plates, extra silver, candles…} to have them ready instead of hiding them away in the cabinet.
It’s not only convenient but also pretty to look at.  Don’t you think?
Cutting garden 5
The dining room opens up right to the patio so this way I can grab what I need & go right outside since we like to be outside as much as possible this time of year.
Cutting garden 6
The fresh blooms brighten up the dining room & make me smile every time I see them.
Cutting garden 7
Garden cuttings don’t have to be limited to flowers either.
I cut these large fronds from my front yard.
Cutting garden 8
I love the scale of these.
We inherited this plant from the previous owners so I don’t have the slightest idea what it is.
Cutting garden 9
But I’m loving how the large leaves look in my front foyer, whatever they might be.
Cutting garden 10
And to add to the garden theme I included some floral frogs & glass cloches.
Cutting garden 11
Notice the vintage post card?  You can read more about that here.
Cutting garden 12
I also included one of my outdoor containers from the patio to compliment this lily that belonged to the same plant as the large fronds.
I love container gardening and hope to do a whole post on that soon.
Cutting garden 13
Yellow is one of my favorite flower colors.
Cutting garden 14
It’s like a little bit of sunshine in the corner of my kitchen.
Cutting garden 15
I don’t know if you noticed but I didn’t use a traditional vase as a home for any of my cuttings.
My hydrangeas sit in an old French canning jar.
The fronds are perfect in my large glass container I use for sangrias & punches.
The lily peeks perfectly out of an old milk bottle.
Pretty blooms in unexpected containers tell an even better story I think.
Cutting garden 17
And although I don’t have a cutting garden per se I do have a vegetable garden which I love.
Mr. Masterpiece made sure it was one of the first things we did in the backyard.  I love clipping herbs or harvesting tomatoes, peppers, lettuce or whatever we have for dinner.
And since we live in California the season is long to enjoy from dirt to table.
Someday I hope to have a small area where I can plant some of my favorite blooms to clip & bring inside, but I really can’t complain.  I love all the sunshine sprinkled around our home.
Happy Gardening!

  2. Mary Jo, your blooms are gorgeous! I love bringing the outdoors in as well. I too love yellow, especially with purple. Certainly does say, sunshine! Only my Limelight is large enough to harvest many blooms. All of my other Hydrangeas are still so young. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
    hugs,
