A couple of weeks ago I hosted a brunch with moms I met back when the kiddos were in preschool.
So I’ve known these fabulous ladies for over a decade. I see some of them here & there but we have not gotten together as a group in over a year.
As part of my word for 2015 (you can read about it here) I want to actively see more friends and open up my home to them. So I organized this get together & we had a blast catching up.
I set it up buffet style so everyone could load up their plates as desired. I made a few items and some others brought dishes to share as well.
I made some croissants with brie, roasted turkey and an avocado spread. They were really yummy; wish I could have one right about now.
I also made cucumber sandwiches, which I learned from my mom. Everyone loved them. If the platter looks a bit sparse it’s because Bailey (my furry, 4 legged child) seemed to have liked them too. Should not have turned my back on her.
A also made individual hummus cups with crudite. This way everyone could take their own individual serving to the table & there’s no double dipping (wink).
I bought these cups last year when I hosted cooking club, using them for gazpacho. They are SO versatile. I’ve used them for appetizers, soups, desserts, etc. I highly recommend having some of these. I found mind at Marshalls or TJMaxx so they were very reasonably priced.
I also made a fruit salad. I was going to make a yogurt & granola bar to go with the fruit but there was so much food I decided against it. My friends also brought a gluten free cheese & tomato quiche that was super yummy, a green salad, chocolate & almond croissants and chocolate covered strawberries. So, yeah, we had a ton of food!
Once we loaded up our plates we sat down and talked, and talked, and talked.
I used my parent’s everyday plates from my childhood. Do they scream 70s or what? I love them. The table I set is very springy although it had been rainy & dreary around here. A girl can wish. And actually wishes do come true ‘cuz it’s been remarkably warm now.
It was great catching up with everyone and finding out how all the kiddos are doing and what’s going on in everyone’s life. I’m so glad I took the time to do this.
Sometimes we are so busy keeping up with life that we don’t realize life is passing us by. We weren’t done talking but we all had to leave to pick up children from school. We all promised to get together again in March or April so I’m looking forward to that.
I used my green mason jars as water glasses. Another super versatile purchase. They are practical and pretty with a gazillion uses as you all well know.
But of course water was not the only beverage I had. You cannot have brunch without mimosas.
I set-up a mini mimosa bar with alternatives if anyone might have chosen not to indulge. Needless to say the sparkling water & lemonade remained unopened.
When I took the pictures I hadn’t taken the OJ out of the fridge ‘cuz I wanted it as cold as possible. I set up little garnishes so everyone could pick the berry of their choice and a mint leaf for freshness.
And I’ll leave you with my trick for the perfect mimosa. Add a dash of triple sec or cointreau (orange liqueur) at the end. It gives it a zip and melds all the flavors together.
Salud!
