merry & bright

Walk through the front door into the foyer and you’re welcomed with my new {Merry Christmas} banner that I got at the Filoli holiday boutique.  I had planned to hang it maybe on the mantel when I bought it but it fits perfectly on the molding opening into the living room.  I love when things just work like that.

Here’s a little vignette on the vintage gossip table in the foyer.

The mantel is the focal point when you enter the living room from the foyer and it’s a large space so I kept it on the neutral side.  White, silver and gray.

The gray cast iron planter has hyacinth bulbs waiting to peek over the edge.

The mantel is asymmetrical with a bookshelf on one end and more mantel on the other which drives me crazy and I won’t get into right here ‘cuz that could be a post all on its own…

The bookcase side can easily get cluttered with the number of small shelves so I try to keep the color palette limited.  For my Christmas displays I used greens, creams, and gold/silver.

Here’s a closeup to one of the shelf vignettes.  The reindeer plate is also a new acquisition from Filoli.  I love it and it will intermix nicely with my brown transfer ware.

The other side of the mantel.  Once again limit the color palette to greens, cream & silver.  We move the sofa table onto the hearth to make room for the tree.

This is how the tree made it home.   Do you see how it’s sideways?  The guy who sold us the tree was super nice but clearly didn’t have a clue.  I’m just glad it made it home ‘cuz it’s perfect.

Here is  Mr. tree naked.  I love the silver tip trees with the big space between the  branches for the ornaments to hang just right.  It just seems so elegant to me.

I love to sit in the living room and just stare at it.  The garland over the window is usually the last thing to get done which is always a few days before Christmas.  I’m proud to say I had it done early with the tree this year.

I love birds and bells.

On the piano the apocathary jars in a tray are full of white balls, pine cones & evergreen branches.

In the corner is my mom’s secretary desk where I displayed my Santa collection.  I have been collecting these for about 15 years and I have to restrain myself from buying more & more.  Yes, I know the door panel on the right is off.  I’m hoping to recover them over winter break.  I already have the fabric and everything.  I just need the time & motivation.

Last but not least my coffee table vignette.
